AN ARROW OF STRENGTH
The Arrow of Determination
You do not stop, and you have never been sure whether that is a virtue.
The line from 1 through 5 to 9 is full: self, feeling and ambition connected end to end. You decide, and then you keep going long after the point where reasonable people revise the plan. Obstacles read to you as things to be removed rather than as information.
This line climbs from the physical plane at 1, through the soul plane at 5, to the mental plane at 9 — a complete circuit. An intention formed in the body reaches the heart and arrives at ambition without anything dropping out along the way. That unbroken transmission is what determination actually is.
It shows up as an unreasonable tolerance for cost. Where other people run a quiet calculation — is this still worth what it is taking — you tend not to reopen the question once it is settled. This is why you finish things nobody expected you to finish, and why you occasionally finish things that should have been abandoned in the first month.
It turns when the circuit runs without the wisdom to interrupt it. Determination that has stopped taking in new information is stubbornness, and from the inside the two are indistinguishable: both feel like resolve. The tell is not how hard you are pushing but whether you can still say, out loud, what would make you stop.
What to do about it
Learn to tell an obstacle from a redirection. Not everything you resolved to do was assigned to you, and stubbornness is determination that stopped listening.
Be careful how much you make of this one. Every 20th-century date supplies a 1 and a 9, so this line needs only a 5 — which means most people born in May, and everyone born in the 1950s, carry it too. It is real, but it is not what makes you unusual.
Which cells it runs through
It crosses all three planes, so this arrow describes a circuit — something travelling from thought to feeling to action, or failing to.
- 1self-expression · physical planePutting what you actually mean into words another person receives.
- 5feeling · soul planeThe heart of the lattice — emotional range, warmth, compassion.
- 9ambition and ideals · mental planeScale — the principle behind the thing, and the wish to see it done properly.

The same line, the other way
A line makes an arrow when all three cells are full, and a different arrow when all three are empty.
The Arrow of ProcrastinationYou already know. You have known for years. That is rather the point. You have read about it. Now have it read.
None of this is worth much in the abstract. Give the teacher the day you were born and he will tell you which of these you actually carry.
